TRESemmé
TRESemmé is a hair care brand that offers a wide range of shampoo, conditioner, hair styling products, and more. It was originally developed by Edna L. Emme in 1947 and has since become a globally recognized brand, owned by Unilever.
History[edit | edit source]
Edna L. Emme, a hair care specialist, founded TRESemmé in St. Louis, Missouri in 1947. The brand was initially sold only in salons and was marketed as a professional-grade product. The name "TRESemmé" is a play on "tres-aimé" which means "well-loved" in French, and Edna's surname, Emme.
In 1968, Alberto-Culver, a personal care company, acquired TRESemmé. Under their ownership, the brand expanded its product line and began selling in retail stores. In 2010, Unilever purchased Alberto-Culver, thus acquiring TRESemmé.
Products[edit | edit source]
TRESemmé offers a variety of hair care products, including shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, mousse, and heat protectant. They also have collections tailored to specific hair needs, such as volume, hydration, color protection, and curl definition.
Reputation[edit | edit source]
TRESemmé is known for its salon-quality products at affordable prices. It has received numerous awards and recognitions in the beauty industry, including from Allure, Cosmopolitan, and InStyle.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
In 2020, TRESemmé faced backlash for an advertisement in South Africa that was deemed racially insensitive. The ad featured images of African women's hair labeled as "dry and damaged," while white women's hair was labeled "normal." The company apologized and pulled the ad.
