What is ADVAIR DISKUS ?[edit | edit source]
ADVAIR DISKUS is a combination product containing a corticosteroid and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist. ADVAIR DISKUS combines an inhaled corticosteroid medicine, fluticasone propionate (the same medicine found in FLOVENT®), and a LABA medicine, salmeterol (the same medicine found in SEREVENT®).
What are the uses of this medicine?[edit | edit source]
This medicine can be used for: • Maintenance treatment of asthma in patients 4 years of age and older. • Maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction and reducing exacerbations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Who Should Not Use ADVAIR DISKUS ?[edit | edit source]
- Not indicated for patients whose asthma can be managed by inhaled corticosteroids with occasional use of inhaled short-acting beta2-agonists.
- Not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm.
How should this medicine be used?[edit | edit source]
- ADVAIR DISKUS should be administered twice daily every day by the orally inhaled route only.
- After inhalation, the patient should rinse the mouth with water without swallowing .
- More frequent administration or a higher number of inhalations (more than 1 inhalation twice daily) of the prescribed strength of ADVAIR DISKUS is not recommended as some patients are more likely to experience adverse effects with higher doses of salmeterol.
- Patients using ADVAIR DISKUS should not use additional LABAs for any reason.

What side effects can this medication cause?[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of ADVAIR DISKUS include:
Asthma:
- upper respiratory tract infection
- throat irritation
- hoarseness and voice changes
- thrush in the mouth and throat
- bronchitis
- cough
- headache
- nausea and vomiting
- In children with asthma, infections in the ear, nose, and throat are common.
COPD:
- thrush in the mouth and throat
- throat irritation
- hoarseness and voice changes
- viral respiratory infections
- headache
- muscle and bone pain
What are contraindication of this medicine?[edit | edit source]
The use of ADVAIR DISKUS is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Primary treatment of status asthmaticus or other acute episodes of asthma or COPD where intensive measures are required
- Severe hypersensitivity to milk proteins
What to do in case of emergency/overdose?[edit | edit source]
- No human overdosage data has been reported for ADVAIR DISKUS.
Can this medicine used in pregnency?[edit | edit source]
- ADVAIR DISKUS should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
- There are no adequate and well-controlled studies with ADVAIR DISKUS in pregnant women.
- Teratogenic Effects: Pregnancy Category C.
Can this medicine is used for Pediatrics?[edit | edit source]
- Use of ADVAIR DISKUS 100/50 in patients aged 4 to 11 years is supported by extrapolation of efficacy data from older patients and by safety and efficacy data from a study of ADVAIR DISKUS 100/50 in children with asthma aged 4 to 11 years.
- The safety and effectiveness of ADVAIR DISKUS in children with asthma less than 4 years of age have not been established.
What should I know about storage and disposal of this medication?[edit | edit source]
- Store ADVAIR DISKUS at room temperature between 68° to 77° F (20° to 25° C). Keep in a dry place away from heat and sunlight.
- Safely discard ADVAIR DISKUS 1 month after you remove it from the foil pouch, or after the dose indicator reads “0”, whichever comes first.
- Keep ADVAIR DISKUS and all medicines out of the reach of children.
