Surgical oncology
Surgical oncology is a branch of medicine, rather, surgery, that deals with providing surgical care for patients with tumors, both cancererous and benign tumors.
What do surgical oncologists do?
Surgical oncologists are surgeons that deal with all kinds of cancer care including breast cancer, cancers of gastrointestinal tract such as cancers of stomach, small bowel, cancer, rectal, liver, pancreatic cancer and bile duct cancer called cholangiocarcinoma as well as endocrine cancers such as thyroid cancer, parathyroid cancer, adrenal cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer etc. Gynecologic cancers such as uterine cancer, ovarian cancers are dealt by another related specialty called gynecologic oncology.
