From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

iTunes Radio is a discontinued Internet radio service by Apple Inc. that was launched on September 18, 2013, as part of the iOS 7 software update. The service was available in the United States and Australia and was accessible through iTunes on Mac and Windows computers, as well as on iOS, Apple TV, and Android (via the Apple Music app).

History[edit | edit source]

iTunes Radio was announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10, 2013. It was initially available only in the United States and was expanded to Australia in February 2014. The service was discontinued on January 28, 2016, and was succeeded by Apple Music's radio stations.

Features[edit | edit source]

iTunes Radio was a free, ad-supported service available to all iTunes users. iTunes Match subscribers could listen to the radio ad-free. The service was integrated directly into the iTunes desktop program and the iOS Music app. Users could skip tracks, customize stations, and purchase the station's songs from the iTunes Store. Stations could also be shared with friends via iMessage, Mail, Facebook, and Twitter.

Reception[edit | edit source]

iTunes Radio received mixed reviews from critics. While some praised its accessibility and the variety of songs available, others criticized its lack of original features and its heavy integration with the iTunes Store.
