Bacon Jammin Green Beans[edit | edit source]
Overview[edit | edit source]
Bacon Jammin Green Beans offer a unique twist on the traditional green bean side dish. Enhanced with a flavorful bacon jam and crispy bacon bits, these green beans are both savory and slightly sweet.
Ingredients[edit | edit source]
- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled (reserve 2 tbsp of bacon grease)
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions[edit | edit source]
- Begin by blanching the green beans in boiling water for 3 minutes, then transfer to an ice water bath to halt the cooking process. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add 2 tbsp of reserved bacon grease. Sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
- Stir in brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and water. Bring to a simmer.
- Add the crumbled bacon to the skillet, reserving a bit for garnish.
- Continue to simmer the mixture until it reduces to a jam-like consistency, approximately 10-15 minutes.
- Add the blanched green beans to the skillet, tossing them in the bacon jam until they're well coated and heated through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with the reserved crumbled bacon and optional fresh parsley.
