Nourishment
Nourishment refers to the provision of essential nutrients, necessary to support human life and health. Poor nourishment can lead to a variety of health problems, ranging from malnutrition to obesity.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Nourishment is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body’s dietary needs. Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity.
Types of Nourishment[edit | edit source]
There are two types of nourishment: Macronutrients and Micronutrients.
Macronutrients[edit | edit source]
Macronutrients are nutrients we need in relatively large quantities. They include Proteins, Carbohydrates, and Fats.
Micronutrients[edit | edit source]
Micronutrients are nutrients we need in relatively small quantities. They include Vitamins and Minerals.
Importance of Nourishment[edit | edit source]
Nourishment is important for various reasons. It provides the body with energy, helps in body growth, helps repair and maintain our body, and regulates body processes.
