Ronald David Laing (7 October 1927 – 23 August 1989), commonly known as R. D. Laing, was a notable Scottish psychiatrist and author. He gained recognition for his alternative approach to the treatment and understanding of mental illness and was a prominent critic of certain psychiatric diagnosis and treatments.
