Gynecology is a branch of medicine that specializes in the health and diseases of the female reproductive systems and the breasts. It is often paired with obstetrics, which deals with pregnancy and childbirth.

General gynecology involves the diagnosis and treatment of conditions and diseases involving the female reproductive system. The term "gynecology" comes from the Greek words "gyne" meaning woman and "logia" meaning study. The field has a long history, with evidence of gynecological treatment dating back to ancient Egypt.
