MacOS Sonoma
macOS Sonoma is the 14th major release of macOS, Apple Inc.'s desktop operating system for Macintosh computers. It was announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5, 2023, and was released to the public on September 26, 2023. The operating system is named after Sonoma County, California, continuing Apple's tradition of naming macOS versions after locations in California.
Features[edit | edit source]
macOS Sonoma introduces several new features and improvements over its predecessor, macOS Ventura. Some of the key features include:
Enhanced Widgets[edit | edit source]
macOS Sonoma brings interactive widgets to the desktop, allowing users to place widgets anywhere on the screen. These widgets are more dynamic and can be interacted with directly, providing a more integrated experience.
Game Mode[edit | edit source]
A new Game Mode optimizes the system for gaming by prioritizing CPU and GPU resources for games. This mode also reduces latency for connected devices like controllers and headphones, enhancing the gaming experience.
Safari Updates[edit | edit source]
The Safari web browser in macOS Sonoma includes several updates, such as improved privacy features, enhanced performance, and new customization options. Users can now create profiles to separate their browsing activities, such as work and personal use.
Video Conferencing Enhancements[edit | edit source]
macOS Sonoma introduces new video conferencing features, including Presenter Overlay, which allows users to overlay their video on top of shared content. This feature is designed to make presentations more engaging and interactive.
Screen Savers and Wallpapers[edit | edit source]
The update includes new screen savers and wallpapers inspired by the natural beauty of Sonoma County. These visual enhancements aim to provide a more aesthetically pleasing user experience.

macOS Sonoma is compatible with the following Mac models:
