The iPhone 3GS is a smartphone that was designed and marketed by Apple Inc.. It is the third generation of the iPhone and was announced on June 8, 2009, at the WWDC 2009 which took place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The "S" in the iPhone 3GS stands for "Speed," referring to the improved performance compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 3G.

Features[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 3GS introduced several new features and improvements over the iPhone 3G, including:

Software[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 3GS originally shipped with iPhone OS 3, which introduced features such as cut, copy, and paste, MMS, and Spotlight search. The device is upgradable to iOS 6, which was the last version of iOS to support the iPhone 3GS.

Design[edit | edit source]

The design of the iPhone 3GS is similar to that of the iPhone 3G, featuring a plastic back available in black and white. It has a 3.5-inch LCD display with a resolution of 480×320 pixels. The device weighs 135 grams and has dimensions of 115.5 mm × 62.1 mm × 12.3 mm.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 3GS received positive reviews for its improved performance, camera capabilities, and new features. It was praised for being a significant upgrade over the iPhone 3G, although some critics noted that it was not a major redesign.

Discontinuation[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 3GS was discontinued on September 12, 2012, following the announcement of the iPhone 5. It was the first iPhone to be available in an 8 GB model as a lower-cost option after the release of newer models.
