Infertile

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Infertility is a reproductive health issue where a person is unable to conceive after a year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. It can affect both men and women, and can be due to a number of factors.

Causes[edit | edit source]

Infertility can be caused by a variety of factors, including age, lifestyle factors, and medical conditions. In women, common causes include ovulation disorders, uterine or cervical abnormalities, fallopian tube damage or blockage, and endometriosis. In men, common causes include abnormal sperm production or function, problems with the delivery of sperm, and overexposure to certain environmental factors.

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

Diagnosing infertility often involves a series of tests to determine the cause of the problem. These may include a semen analysis for men, and ovulation testing, hysterosalpingography, and ovarian reserve testing for women.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment for infertility depends on the cause, how long you've been infertile, your age and your partner's age, and many personal preferences. Some causes of infertility can't be corrected. However, a woman can still become pregnant with assisted reproductive technology or other procedures to restore fertility.
