Overview[edit | edit source]
Classic Pesto is a traditional Italian sauce originating from the Liguria region. It's made by blending basil, pine nuts, parmesan cheese, garlic, and olive oil. This sauce is versatile, flavorful, and keto-friendly.
Ingredients[edit | edit source]
- 2 cups fresh Basil leaves, packed
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan Cheese
- 1/2 cup extra-virgin Olive Oil
- 1/4 cup pine nuts
- 3 cloves Garlic, minced
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Pecorino cheese (optional)
Preparation[edit | edit source]
- 1. In a food processor, combine basil, garlic, and pine nuts. Pulse until coarsely chopped.
- 2. Add parmesan and pecorino cheese (if using). Process until combined.
- 3. While the processor is running, slowly pour in the olive oil. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed.
- 4. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- 5. If the mixture is too thick, you can add more olive oil until desired consistency is reached.
