Overview[edit | edit source]
Turnip Gratin is a twist on the classic French potato gratin, using turnips to lower the carbohydrate content without sacrificing taste or texture.
Ingredients[edit | edit source]
- 5 medium turnips, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese (or a cheese of your choice)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Preparation[edit | edit source]
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). 2. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper until simmering. 3. Arrange a layer of sliced turnips in a baking dish, then pour a portion of the heated cream mixture over them. 4. Sprinkle a portion of the cheese on top. 5. Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used up, finishing with a layer of cheese on top. 6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. 7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly. 8. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
