Cheese platter

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Cheese platter is a low carbohydrate / keto friendly food item.

Overview[edit | edit source]

A Cheese Platter or Cheese Board is a curated selection of cheeses, often paired with accompaniments that enhance their flavors. Ideal for gatherings, events, or as an appetizer, cheese platters can be simple with just a few types of cheese, or elaborate with various cheeses, cured meats, fruits, and other accompaniments.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

Building a balanced cheese platter involves selecting cheeses of varying textures and flavors, from soft and creamy to hard and crumbly. Aesthetic presentation is crucial, as it's a dish that invites people to visually explore and choose from the array.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

  • Assorted cheeses (e.g., Brie, Camembert, Cheddar, Gouda, Blue Cheese, Feta)
  • Cured meats (e.g., Prosciutto, Salami, Bresaola)
  • Fresh fruits (e.g., grapes, apple slices, figs)
  • Dried fruits (e.g., apricots, cranberries)
  • Nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, cashews)
  • Olives or pickles
  • Crackers or slices of baguette (optional for keto)
  • Jams or honey
  • Dark chocolate (optional)

Instructions[edit | edit source]

  1. Start with the cheeses: Place them on a wooden board or platter, spaced out.
  2. Add cured meats, folding or rolling them for presentation.
  3. Intersperse with fresh fruits, which provide a refreshing contrast.
  4. Scatter dried fruits and nuts around the board.
  5. Add small bowls of olives or pickles.
  6. If including, place crackers or bread slices. For keto-friendly, use almond flour crackers or omit altogether.
  7. Finally, add small bowls of jams or honey for sweetness.

Nutritional Information[edit | edit source]

As this dish is highly customizable, the nutritional content varies. However, focusing on cheese, meats, and low-carb fruits will keep the net carbs low.

  • Approximate Net Carbs (without bread/crackers): 5-8g per serving
