Apple Books

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Apple Books is a digital distribution platform developed by Apple Inc. for e-books and audiobooks. It was launched in 2010 as iBooks, and was rebranded as Apple Books in 2018. The platform is available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices.

History[edit | edit source]

Apple Books was announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in 2010. It was initially released as an app for the iPad, with support for the iPhone and iPod Touch added later that year. In 2012, Apple Books was included as a pre-installed app on all new iOS devices.

In 2018, Apple rebranded the service as Apple Books, introducing a new design and additional features. The update included a new "Reading Now" section, a redesigned bookstore, and enhanced audiobook capabilities.

Features[edit | edit source]

Apple Books supports both e-books and audiobooks, and includes a built-in e-book reader and audiobook player. Users can purchase and download books from the Apple Books Store, or import their own EPUB and PDF files.

The platform supports a variety of features designed to enhance the reading experience, including customizable fonts and colors, adjustable brightness, and a night mode. It also includes features for note-taking and highlighting, and supports VoiceOver for accessibility.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Apple Books has been generally well-received, with praise for its user-friendly interface and wide selection of titles. However, it has also faced criticism for its lack of support for some e-book formats, and for its reliance on the Apple ecosystem.
