Apple Campus
Apple Campus is the former corporate headquarters of Apple Inc. located in Cupertino, California, United States. It was opened in 1993 and served as the primary center of operations for Apple until 2017, when it was largely replaced by the Apple Park, a new headquarters also located in Cupertino.
History[edit | edit source]
The Apple Campus was commissioned by Apple's co-founder and then-CEO, Steve Jobs, who wanted to consolidate the company's numerous leased buildings scattered throughout Cupertino and neighboring towns into one central location. The campus was designed by the architectural firm Sobrato Development Companies and was built on a 32-acre site that was previously a series of apricot orchards.
Design and Layout[edit | edit source]
The Apple Campus was designed in a quadrangle layout, with four main buildings surrounding a central green space. The buildings, numbered 1 through 4, housed various departments and facilities, including offices, research and development labs, and a company store. The campus also included a fitness center, a café, and several outdoor seating areas.
Transition to Apple Park[edit | edit source]
In 2006, Steve Jobs announced plans for a second campus in Cupertino, to be known as Apple Park. Construction on Apple Park began in 2013 and was completed in 2017. With the opening of Apple Park, many of the functions and employees of the Apple Campus were transferred to the new facility. However, the Apple Campus remains in use and is still owned by Apple Inc.
