History and organization

Chick-Fil-A was started by S.Truett Cathy, who in 1946, opened a restaurant in the Atlanta suburb of Haperville along with his brother. The first restaurant was named Dwarf Grille which was later renamed as Dwarf House.

The first restaurant is named Chick-Fil-A is opened in 1967, in Greenbriar shopping center. The grand success of this restaurant led Cathy to open more stores.

Closed on Sundays

The founder of Chick-Fil-A, Truett Cathy, made the decision to close on Sundays in 1946 when he opened his first restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia. With his prior experience of working at restaurants that were open 24/7, Mr. Truett saw the importance of closing on Sundays, first to be able to rest, worship God, attend church. This is a practice which they still follow today as all Chick-Fil-A's remain closed on Sundays.
