Pepcid RPD is a type of medication used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It also treats conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Pepcid RPD belongs to a class of drugs known as H2 blockers.

Pepcid RPD is composed of the active ingredient famotidine, a histamine-2 blocker. Famotidine works by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces.

Pepcid RPD is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It also treats conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In addition, it is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions where acid backs up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing heartburn.

Common side effects of Pepcid RPD include headache, dizziness, and constipation or diarrhea. Serious side effects are rare, but may include allergic reactions, mental/mood changes, seizure, and abnormal heart rhythm.

Precautions[edit | edit source]

Before taking Pepcid RPD, patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist if they are allergic to it or to other H2 blockers (e.g., cimetidine, ranitidine) or if they have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Pepcid RPD may interact with certain laboratory tests, causing false test results. It may also interact with other medications, such as atazanavir, delavirdine, dasatinib, among others.
