Glossary of Indian food
Indian food is food eaten in the Indian subcontinent including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Srilanka and other countries in the region. Indian food is also popular in many countries around the world known for its spicy, delicious and colorful foods with a wide variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

- Boda is the Indian name for Double beans.
- Bombay potato is the Indian name for Small whole potatoes in curry and tomato sauce.
- Boti kebab is the Indian name for Marinated lamb cubes - cooked in a tandoor oven.
- Bumallo or Bombil is the Indian name for Bombay Duck - A smallish fish native to the Bombay area known locally as Bommaloe Macchi. This was too hard for the British to pronounce so it became Bombay Duck. It is dried and appears on the table as a crispy deep fried starter or accompaniment to a curry.
- Bundhi, Boondi is the Indian name for Small fried savoury drops made from gramflour.
- Cassia is the Indian name for A 'corky' bark with a sweet fragrance (similar to cinnamon). Used extensively in Northern Indian cooking. Normally removed before the dish is consumed.
- Cayenne pepper is the Indian name for A variation of chilli powder.
- Chaach, Chachm Chaas, Chas is the Indian name for Butter Milk.
- Chaamp is the Indian name for Chop (as in Lamb chop).

- Chandi, Varak, Varq is the Indian name for Edible beaten Silver, mainly used for decorating Methi/Indian sweets.

- Charoli, Charonji is the Indian name for Piyal seeds.

- Chole, Channa is the Indian name for Garbanzo beans.
- Cholia, Hara Chana is the Indian name for Chickpeas (green).
- Chor magaz, Char magaz is the Indian name for Melon seeds. Often used as a thickener.
- Chota akhrot is the Indian name for Chestnut.
- Choti Ilaichi or Elaichi is the Indian name for Green cardamom.
- Choti Saunf is the Indian name for Anise Seed.
- Chuara (Chu-a-ra) is the Indian name for Dried Dates.
- Chukka Bhaji, Chukka Leaves is the Indian name for Red sorrel leaves.
- Halwa is an Indian sweet made with suji, sugar, kaju (cashew nut, cooked with ghee and other spices used as a dessert.
- Jaitoon Ka Tel is the Indian name for Olive Oil.
- Jalebi is the Indian name for Indian dessert. A flour, milk powder and yoghurt batter pushed through a narrow funnel into deep oil producing golden curly crispy rings. Served cold or hot with syrup.
- Jeera, Zeera is the Indian name for Cumin. The white seeds are a very important spice in Indian cookery (ground or whole). The black seeds (Kala Jeera) are sweeter and used less often then the white seeds.
- Jimikand is the Indian name for Indian Yam.
- Kabli Chana, Kabuli Chana is the Indian name for Chickpeas.
- Kachcha Aam is the Indian name for Raw Mango (ie Green Mango).
- Kachcha Kela is the Indian name for Green Banana/Plaintain.
