- Alexander - king of Macedon; conqueror of Greece and Egypt and Persia; founder of Alexandria (356-323 BC); European herb somewhat resembling celery widely naturalized in Britain coastal regions and often cultivated as a potherb
- Algae - primitive chlorophyll-containing mainly aquatic eukaryotic organisms lacking true stems and roots and leaves
- Algerian - of or relating to or characteristic of Algeria or its inhabitants; a native or inhabitant of Algeria
- Allergy - hypersensitivity reaction to a particular allergen; symptoms can vary greatly in intensity
- Alligator - either of two amphibious reptiles related to crocodiles but with shorter broader snouts; leather made from alligator's hide; verb crack and acquire the appearance of alligator hide, as from weathering or improper application; of paint and varnishes
