Gallocatechin-(4-8)-catechin is a type of flavan-3-ol, a class of flavonoids, which are a type of phenolic compound. It is a specific type of tannin and is found in a variety of plants, including tea and cocoa.

Gallocatechin-(4-8)-catechin is a dimer of catechin and gallocatechin, linked by a carbon-carbon bond between the 4' position of the gallocatechin unit and the 8 position of the catechin unit. This type of linkage is known as a B-type linkage.

The compound is a polyphenol, meaning it contains multiple phenol groups. These groups can act as antioxidants, neutralizing harmful free radicals in the body.
