Ginataang mais

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Ginataang mais is a traditional Filipino dessert made from sweet corn and coconut milk. The name ginataang mais translates to "corn in coconut milk" in English. This dish is a type of ginataan, a general term for dishes cooked with coconut milk in the Philippines.

Ingredients and Preparation[edit | edit source]

The main ingredients of ginataang mais are sweet corn kernels and coconut milk. Other ingredients may include glutinous rice, sugar, and pandan leaves for added flavor. Some variations of the recipe also include sago pearls or jackfruit.

To prepare ginataang mais, the coconut milk is first brought to a boil. The sweet corn kernels are then added and cooked until tender. If glutinous rice is used, it is added to the pot and cooked until the grains become soft. Sugar is then added to sweeten the dish. If pandan leaves are used, they are added towards the end of the cooking process to infuse the dish with their aroma and flavor.

Cultural Significance[edit | edit source]

Ginataang mais is a popular dessert in the Philippines and is often served as a snack or after meals. It is especially popular during the hot summer months as it is typically served chilled. The dish is also commonly served during special occasions and festivals.
