Dagapamil is a calcium channel blocker that is primarily used in the management of hypertension and angina pectoris. It belongs to the class of phenylalkylamine calcium channel blockers, similar to verapamil.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

Dagapamil works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions through L-type calcium channels in the cardiac muscle and vascular smooth muscle. This action results in a decrease in myocardial contractility and a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance, leading to a decrease in blood pressure and relief from angina.

Pharmacokinetics[edit | edit source]

Dagapamil is administered orally and has a bioavailability of approximately 20% due to extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver. It is highly protein-bound (90%) and is metabolized primarily by the liver. The elimination half-life of dagapamil is between 4 to 6 hours, and it is excreted mainly through the kidneys.
