Estradiol 3-tetrahydropyranyl ether

Estradiol 3-tetrahydropyranyl ether (also known as Estradiol TTHP ether) is a synthetic, steroidal estrogen that was never marketed. It is an ether derivative of estradiol and is related to other ether derivatives of estradiol such as estradiol diacetate and estradiol dipropionate.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

Estradiol 3-tetrahydropyranyl ether, also known as 17β-estradiol 3-(2,2,6-trimethyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yl) ether, is a synthetic estrane steroid and a derivative of estradiol. It is specifically a derivative of estradiol with a tetrahydropyranyl (THP) ether at the C3 position. Related derivatives of estradiol include estradiol acetate, estradiol benzoate, and estradiol cypionate.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

As an estrogen, estradiol 3-tetrahydropyranyl ether is an agonist of the estrogen receptor, the biological target of endogenous estrogens like estradiol. It has been found to possess high estrogenic potency in animal bioassays.

History[edit | edit source]

Estradiol 3-tetrahydropyranyl ether was first described in the literature in 1966. It was never marketed for medical use.
