Chemistry[edit | edit source]

JWH-081 is an analgesic chemical from the naphthoylindole family, which acts as a cannabinoid agonist at both the CB1 and CB2 receptors. With a Ki of 1.2nM it is fairly selective for the CB1 subtype, almost 10x less affinity for CB2.

The effects of JWH-081 on the human brain are similar to those of cannabis, but it is much more potent than THC. Side effects may include hypertension, tachycardia, myocardial infarction, agitation, vomiting, hallucinations, psychoses, seizures, convulsions and panic attacks.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

As of October 2015, JWH-081 is a controlled substance in China. JWH-081 is also banned in New Zealand. The compound is illegal in Latvia since 14 November 2013. It is also an Anlage II controlled drug in Germany.
