4-HO-DALT

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

A psychedelic compound related to tryptamines

4-HO-DALT (4-hydroxy-N,N-diallyltryptamine) is a synthetic psychedelic compound belonging to the tryptamine class. It is structurally related to psilocin, the active component in psilocybin mushrooms.

Chemical Structure and Properties[edit | edit source]

4-HO-DALT is a tryptamine derivative, characterized by the presence of a hydroxy group at the fourth position of the indole ring. The compound's full chemical name is 3-[2-(Diethylamino)ethyl]-1H-indol-4-ol. It has a molecular formula of C14H20N2O and a molecular weight of 232.32 g/mol.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

4-HO-DALT is believed to act as a partial agonist at the 5-HT2A receptor, similar to other psychedelic tryptamines. This receptor is primarily responsible for the psychedelic effects experienced by users. The compound's effects are dose-dependent and can vary significantly between individuals.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of 4-HO-DALT are similar to those of other psychedelic tryptamines, such as psilocybin and DMT. Users report visual and auditory hallucinations, altered perception of time, and profound changes in thought and mood. The onset of effects typically occurs within 20 to 40 minutes after ingestion, with the experience lasting between 4 to 6 hours.

Safety and Toxicity[edit | edit source]

There is limited data on the safety and toxicity of 4-HO-DALT. As with other psychedelics, it is advised to use caution and to be aware of the potential for psychological distress or "bad trips." There is no known lethal dose, but the lack of research means that the long-term effects are not well understood.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

4-HO-DALT is not specifically scheduled under the Controlled Substances Act in the United States, but it may be considered an analogue of other controlled tryptamines, making it potentially subject to prosecution under the Federal Analogue Act. Its legal status varies by country.

History and Research[edit | edit source]

4-HO-DALT was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin and described in his book TiHKAL (Tryptamines I Have Known and Loved). It has not been widely studied in scientific literature, and most information comes from anecdotal reports and user experiences.
